Event Details

    South Platte River, Adams County

All ages and abilities welcome! Join Chuck Aid for our Third-Saturday Bird Walk on Feb 15, from 7:30 to 12:00. The South Platte north of Commerce City is flanked by many large gravel pits which these days are now small reservoirs. These reservoirs can be very productive, and the river, particularly in extreme cold spells when all the local lakes are frozen, can become the premier hangout in the region for wintering waterfowl (the effluent from the Denver sewage treatment plant just upstream helps keep the water open). The adjacent riparian habitat can also yield some nice landbirds.

Bring water, a snack, and dress for the occasion; and meet at the Bergen Park Park-and-Ride at 7:30 AM. Or, you can meet us out there just off I-76 and 74th Ave. Once I have a list of registrants, I’ll be in touch to work out these options.

These walks are for Evergreen Audubon members and their guests. Non-members won’t be turned away but will be encouraged to join Evergreen Audubon. You must register here to attend this event. If you are registering for more than one person, please enter each person separately. This event is filled when we have 12 registrants.
